The D2 generation Audi S8, second series. 4.2 litre V8, 265 kW, quattro and Tiptronic. The quiet one. Collectors have spent the last few years working out what these are worth, and the good ones with history have largely gone.
Chassis WAUZZZ4DZYN001213, first registered in Germany in June 1999 and delivered through the Audi and Volkswagen employee centre in Wolfsburg in July 2001 at 34,200 km. One owner took it from there. Serviced by Audi in Braunschweig, carried with him to England, then shipped to Dubai by container in October 2013 and registered here ever since.
The engine was replaced by Audi in the UK.

The history file
German registration papers, the original 2001 delivery note, dealer invoices from Germany, the UK and the UAE, TÜV and DEKRA reports, the engine replacement record, shipping documents, RTA inspection records, original keys and spare.
Odometer
New engine fitted by Audi in Guildford , with the odometer reprogrammed by the service centre at the same time. The instrument now reads 48,918 km, which is the distance on the replacement engine. All of it documented and open for inspection.
Dark blue over grey. Preservation grade, honest throughout, and usable as it stands.
