Ford Mustang 289 (1965) Tucked in among the Mercedes was a first-generation Mustang, the car that kicked off the whole “pony car” era. After three examples of German luxury Mercedes, the Mustang is pure American and a reminder that this fleet has more range than I first assumed. For a shoot that needs a bit of swagger instead of elegance, it’s the obvious pick.

Between them, the cars span two very different takes on the 1960s: the cool of vintage Mercedes and the muscle-car charisma of an early Mustang.
